Getting Ready B
This video is made for kids, so your child can watch it with you. It's also a good model for how to teach these skills.
Getting Ready B
What this lesson is about
There are seven places in the mouth where sounds are made. Your child doesn't need to memorize them. They just notice where their mouth is working. Writing moves on to straight lines.
Try it
- Go through the seven places with a mirror: lips together, teeth on lip, tongue between teeth, tongue behind top teeth, lips rounded, back of tongue lifted, back of throat.
- Play "what's moving?" Say a sound and have your child guess where it's made.
- Make straight lines up and down, side to side and slanted, in the air and on different surfaces.
Shapes this lesson
- Vertical line: start at the top, go straight down.
- Horizontal line: start at the left, go straight across.
- Slanted lines: both directions, top to bottom and bottom to top.
