Getting Ready E

This video is made for kids, so your child can watch it with you. It's also a good model for how to teach these skills.

Getting Ready E

What this lesson is about

Glides (/y/, /w/, /wh/) slide into the next sound, and slippery sounds (/l/, /r/) flow. Your child notices how these feel different from stops and friction.

Try it

  • Say "yes," "wet," "leaf" and "red" slowly and watch your mouths.
  • Say /l/ and /r/ in a mirror. What does your tongue do on each one?
  • Sort a pile of toys by their first sound, or play I Spy with /w/ and /r/.

Letters this lesson

  • O: Start at the top and curve to the left all the way around.
  • Q: Make an O, then add a short slanted line through the bottom.
  • C: Start at the top, curve around to the left, and stop at the bottom.
  • G: Make a C, almost all the way around, then add a line straight in at the middle.
