Getting Ready D
This video is made for kids, so your child can watch it with you. It's also a good model for how to teach these skills.
Getting Ready D
What this lesson is about
Friction sounds, made when air squeezes through a small gap (/f/, /v/, "th," /s/, /z/, /sh/, /zh/, /h/), and two sounds that start with a stop and slide into friction (/ch/ and /j/).
Try it
- Hold a feather or a strip of tissue in front of your mouth and say /f/. Compare it with /p/.
- Make a snake with /s/ and a bee with /z/. Which one buzzes?
- Say "this" and "thumb" and feel your tongue between your teeth both times. Does your throat buzz on both?
